Even in this pause, the earth is vibrant and alive.
In the distance a hopeful tune piped from the ice cream truck,
sounds of puttering neighbors, and the birds.
The birds singing their most joyful songs,
basking in the new balance of life.
I sit quietly, steeped in gratitude for this space and time of right now
and all at once, tears careen down my face.
I laugh out loud, realizing that after all these years,
fears of loneliness are transformed
into serene, rejoicing pleasure in my own company.
What an unexpected turn of events.
